News from the homefront

In a rare moment of not working through extreme-pukeyness-bleeding-from-eyeballs-etc.-etc., I stayed home from work today. Or rather, I went to work on the bus, and after feeling (a) crappy generally and (b) totally certain that I was going to puke on the nice people next to me, I arrived at work and promptly said, "I need to go home." And I did. Came home, had a bowl of Grape-Nuts (ah, the things that taste good to a woman-with-child!), watched a little TV (ooh, Tyra Banks, your show SUCKS SO MUCH ASS. Please do us all a favor and just stop.), and decided to take a little nap. Now that little nap turned into a four-hour snoozefest, and I feel much better for it. Maybe skipping the martyrdom and not working through sickness isn't such a bad idea after all. . . .

Now I'm roasting a few butternut squash for a curried butternut squash-mushroom soup, and contemplating the Mister's most recent request: knowing the sex of the hybrid before it makes it's grand entrance next spring. He says he hates calling the baby "it" and "sponge" and would feel lots better if he could say "he" or "she." I do see his point, but . . . well, it feels like cheating on a test to me. I feel like I'm not supposed to know until the zero hour, and plus, I really, really want it to be a surprise!

What say all of you? If you or your lady friend were pregnant, would you want to know whether you were having a boy or a girl or a puppy or kitten?

Love and please vote for my side because I really really like to win,

a) I agree that you should wait and be surprised; but more importantly b) I think you have final decision on this one because YOU are the one who has to carry the damn thing and give birth. Besides, I *like* calling it Sponge!

we're not finding out, but i feel like a throwback. nobody understands it.
i am sorry your tummy is upset; it's the WORST thing ever.

I'd be all about NOT knowing until that final moment - I love a good surprise. But, I also need a favor from your husband so I should stay on his good side. Thus, I'm torn.

I was going to suggest he find out and not tell you, but we all know he can't keep a secret. If the problem is simply the pronoun, then stop using pronouns. He should be referring to the wee nausea storm as his beloved and much anticipated love-child and leave it at that. I think you should perhaps worry about the sheer laziness of his needing a pronoun when you can't make it through breakfast.

Men! they know nothing of pain...

Hmm.I was also going to suggest he find out and not tell you and then it also occured to me that the mister can not keep that kind of secret to himself. The mister seems to have quite a reputation. I like the not knowing. We could just start calling him/her pat.

Sorry, I would HAVE TO know in advance.

Oh my gosh - no! Wait to find out! It will be like a special extra little treat that you get at the end after all the hard work and pukeybits you've dealt with! I'm solidly with you mama. Hugs.
