So many gosh-darn bloggable things have happened in the past few weeks, and I haven't written about a single one! I think the pressure of all that unsaid stuff has become a bit daunting, and so I've decided that I'll do a quick "here's what the hell I've been up to" list and then see if I can't get back in a writing groove again.
Here's the skinny:
*Went to Irishland and totally fell in love with the Mister's family. They're lovely and kind, and I felt totally at home.
*Had a killer couch-warming party with the Mister and the One-Eyed Wonder! Beer was drunk, the couch was welcomed by all, and a kazillion wonderful photos were taken by the fabulous, blonde-again Jocelyn. We haven't had a shindig in forever so it was nice to be the hosts for a change.
*Left the bakery. It was getting a bit, um, unsatisfying there (it's a long story, but basically i was starting to feel a bit like the fifth wheel), and I really needed to start bringing home a bit more bacon. I've found a good job being the baker for a small cafe in Brooklyn. It's not Per Se, but I like it well enough. Believe it or not, it looks to be less stress and more money. Go figure, eh?
*Started culinary school! Finally!!!!!! I worked at the school all last year to earn my tuition, so actually being in class is a huge victory. I've ended up in the same class with a few friends, and that's really helped me to feel at ease. We haven't done any cooking yet - we don't even have our knives yet! - but there's plenty of time for that. I'm sure when we're really in the thick of things I'll wish we could just have lecture one day! It's all exciting though, really, fabulously, outrageously exciting, and I feel really happy and proud of the decision I've made.
*Have been thinking about the miscarriage again. Not all the time, but it creeps into my mind from time to time. I would have been six months pregnant about now.
Phew! So that's what new on this end. What's up with you fun kids?
Love and, um, Olympic dreams (since it's on TV and all),

Hi there. I've been stalking your blog for a while. I am so glad for you (and to be honest a teensy bit envious) that you are starting culinary school. Congrats and best of luck. I am a Labor and Delivery nurse, and I read about your miscarriage. My heart hurts for you. I too lost a child, and care for patients in the same situation. Know that you will NEVER forget about the loss, but time helps to sand the sharp edges off of the pain. I promise.
In the meanwhile, enjoy the new and exciting adventure you are about to begin.

ohmygod, merxbauer! you are so right! the birthday will be it's own post.
heather, thank you very much for your comment. the miscarriage has been very much on my mind lately - particularly now that we're starting to get "we're having a baby!" phone calls from friends. it's good to hear from someone who is in the same boat. makes it all feel a little less lonely, you know?
xx
