Chips and dip? No. Chips, dips, and dorks? Um.

There will be no joy in Whoville if I can't think of something super-scrummy and light-speed-fast to bring to my work-affiliated potluck tomorrow night, a soiree that begins, oh, maybe two hours after my longsweatystinky workday ends.

Any ideas?

Guacamole is always a good fast homemade option. You can chop up the onion in advance, then just mash it in to some avocados, lime juice, salt, chopped cilantro. Add a chopped up chipotle in adobo (or two) for that je ne sais quoi, et voila!

Alternately, you could do bruschetta of some sort. Or just make up one of your pretty cheese and fruit plates!

I like both Neighbor Stacey's suggestions. Also, dates wrapped in bacon (you can even press a toasted almond inside the date) - not only delicious, you can brag to the foodies that you whipped this up in 5 minutes. And who doesn't like BACON?

I don't like Bacon. I do like guacamole, tho'. Bring beer. everyone loves beer.

Ok. You being a master chef and all could maybe find a way to do this without a grill, or maybe you have a little hibachi. But what I do it take scallops, wrap them in proscutio (fancy bacon) and hold it all together on a rosemary skewer (take a sprig of rosemary, strip off the needles at one end and stab 'em) coat with a touch of olive oil and cook em up. Easy and sexy.... just like me.
