It's been manymany moons (over my hammy?) since I wrote anything here. (Posts, filled with wisdom and witticisms and correct and incorrect spellings, have been written in my head and then promptly forgotten.) So, for those of you good souls who check this site for my biweekly musings, here are some of the reasons I've been on a Really Long Lunch Break:
*Basking in the reflected glory of being called a baker in this magazine. Go ahead and believe what you read, m'kay?
*Basking in the additional glory of working for the Best Bakery!!! Woot! Woot!!! (Thank you for the hundreds, er, dozens of people who voted for us on citysearch!)
*Being totally bemused by the frequent mention of badgers by those RSVPeeing to our fourth of joo-lie partee.
*Sleeping and/or wishing I was sleeping.
*Drooling on myself whilst sleeping on various forms of public transportation.
*Trying to find more time to spend with all of the people that I love.
*Thinking about how nice it was to meet Canadian A and her bacon-and-strawberry-lovin' fella, who were not at all alarmed when we gave them, among other absurdities, wind-up lederhosen, and then have not started sending hate mail when I repeatedly promised and then have not yet sent numerous recipes for tasty baked items. (Soon, I swear! Soon!)
*Scratchin'. And sniffin'.
*Dealing with a person who was a good friend and then decided that I sucked a lot and now is really snarky. The whole situation is odd and frankly rather confusing. I allegedly did not spend enough time with this person, which is why she thinks I suck. But I don't spend very much time with anyone, including my beloved husband and this site, so really, this lady needs to take a number.
*Fielding phone calls from my mother during which she implores me to (a) have a baby and (b) to move back to my home town. Crazy lady! I have all of zero interest in moving back to a tiny town, lovely but 3900 people? Puh-leaze!, and gettin' knocked up.
*Pining for more smoked ham potato chips. Oh the porky goodness!!
*Trying to understand the various bells and whistles of my phancy new phone. How do I add a phone number again?
*Missing all of you. What's new, kiddos?
Love and all that good stuff,
grumpypants
**Thanks, Deb, for the snappy title. I'll repay you in bourbon and brownies, m'kay?

Ms. Du Jour - We finally had the last of the three brownies this weekend, the chipotle one and OHMYGOD. It was amazing, the balance of ingredients, the subtle tingliness. That write-up was well-deserved, and I am sure the first of many more. Great work! - deb/alex

You know he WAS asking just last night about me making pies and I said "oh, I'm going to try the pastry in the food processor this time" and his little eyes lit up and he screeched "DID SHE SEND YOU THE RECIPES!!!!" (I also overheard him telling his friend about the pastry chef that I know in New York who is going to be sending us recipes.) Perhaps you don't understand how happy you are going to make my little man, but rest assured, it will be very very very happy.
